Gutter surveys for Murrell Green homes and businesses

Leave it or get it looked at?

Overflowing water soaks the walls under the gutter. Left for months, that can lead to damp inside, worn pointing and rotten timber. Finding the cause now typically keeps the fix smaller. Outbuildings and barns around Murrell Green are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.

Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Murrell Green

We carry out gutter surveys in Murrell Green as part of our cover across London and the South East. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view from the ground, windows, the roof space and the roof where it’s safe. A visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. The written report follows, with photographs and recommendations. If you’ve noticed choked outlets or hopper heads and rotten fascias or stained soffits, we can find out what’s behind it, on fascias and soffits, parapet and box gutters and valley gutters alike.

Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Murrell Green homes and their roofs

The wider area around Murrell Green has a long history of building, with Stratfield Saye House about 4.9 miles north-west. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.

Anyone responsible for a site like Hook Junior School will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time. Landlords with a home close to Winchfield station may find that a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. The streets around a church such as St John the Evangelist are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

What we can’t see

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
  • Blockages deep inside downpipes
  • Pipes below ground level

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

What we check

  • Downpipes
  • Eaves gutters
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Valley gutters

Tips that help

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Get the gutters cleaned out every year
  • Watch the gutters during heavy rain
  • Do not leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
  • Note any damp stains below the gutters

If anything in the report isn’t clear, ask us. With the Standard Survey there’s a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation.

Have overhanging branches and climbing plants cut back from the roof using someone with the right kit. Fewer leaves in the gutters means fewer blockages.

Different roofs, different checks

Box and secret gutters

Box and secret gutters often cause leaks indoors. Outlets, linings and overflows are checked as far as access allows.

Fascias and soffits

Soffits and timber fascias suffer when gutters overflow. We check them along with the gutters.

How we price gutter surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

Booking your survey

There’s no need for technical words. Just tell us:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The property’s address and postcode

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details.

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes between one and two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. For a village or hamlet like Murrell Green, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.

  1. We agree which parts of the building you’re most worried about.
  2. Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
  3. Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
  4. We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
  5. You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

Before the survey

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Arrange a survey

Booking is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us some details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.
