Perry Gutter Survey
Find out what’s going on with the gutter before you decide what to do next. We carry out gutter surveys in Perry.
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
Gutter survey in Perry: what you get
A gutter needs a steady fall towards its outlet or water sits in them. When brackets sag or joints part, water pools, drips and spills over where the gutter dips. We look along each run for sags, gaps and leaking joints, along with the brackets and downpipe fixings. You get written recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you are worried about overflowing valley or parapet gutters and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on valley gutters, outlets and hoppers and parapet and box gutters alike.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

How we price gutter surveys
Our packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.
What we need to know
If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
We survey roofs on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photos included.
Practical tips
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Check downpipe clips are holding
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. We email it to you as soon as it is ready.
Get trees and climbers near the eaves trimmed back by someone who can do it safely. Fewer leaves in the gutters means fewer blockages.
Perry questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Perry?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Is Perry within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
How fast do I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If it’s needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.
Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?
There’s no wrong time. If water is already spilling over, book sooner rather than later as overflowing water can damage walls.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
How it works
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Older roofs in small places like Perry can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- We start by hearing about any drips, overflows or damp patches.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can be seen safely.
- Where the loft can be reached safely, we check it for staining or damp.
- The findings are written up with photographs and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
How to book
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
Advice

What else we do in Perry
Do you need a gutter survey in Perry?
Leaves are behind most blocked gutters. Every autumn, trees fill gutters with leaves, twigs and seeds, and they collect at the outlets. A choked outlet soon means a full, overflowing gutter.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Joints that drip after rain
If you look after a building such as Preston Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
Questions to ask before booking
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- What follow-up you get after the report
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Perry
Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters. With Goodnestone Park about 3.1 miles south, Perry sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you live in an older home near Elmstone Church, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. For landlords with property near Adisham station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.
Perry is about 7 miles east of Canterbury, in Kent. Perry gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. Our Kent coverage includes Perry. We also survey roofs in Canterbury.
