Prestwood Gutter Survey
Not sure what state the gutter is in? We carry out gutter surveys in Prestwood and across Buckinghamshire, with plain-English findings.
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
- Joints that drip after rain
- Gutters full of debris and silt
Leave it or get it looked at?
It’s easy to put damp down to the wrong cause. If a leaking gutter or downpipe is the source, other work on the wall won’t stop it. A gutter survey helps rule the rainwater system in or out. Arranging work in a smaller place like Prestwood is easier with notice than in an emergency. A survey gives you that notice.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

How a gutter survey works in Prestwood
Most gutters hang from the fascia boards at the eaves, so fascias and soffits are part of the survey. Long-term overflowing can soften and rot timber boards and stain the soffits below. On buildings from before 2000, some soffits and rainwater goods may be asbestos cement. We don’t test for asbestos, but we flag anything that could contain it. Common reasons to book are overflowing eaves gutters and soffits marked by water, on valley gutters, fascias and soffits and eaves gutters.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Prestwood drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from ground level.
What you get is a clear record of the gutter on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

FAQs for Prestwood
Is my home in Prestwood listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Can a landlord with a rental near Great Missenden station book a roof survey?
Yes, that is a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and the report can go straight to you or your agent.
Could my damp wall be caused by the gutters?
We check whether rainwater from the gutters is reaching the wall, through overflows, drips or damaged downpipes. We can’t see inside the wall itself, so the report covers what can be seen.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.
How fast do I get the report?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
Different roofs, different checks
Aluminium and other metal gutters
On big buildings, one blocked outlet can affect a long run so outlets get close attention.
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Plastic rainwater systems are common on homes of many ages. As the seals age, joints can start to drip and brackets may drop under the weight of debris.
The survey, step by step
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a smaller place like Prestwood, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- Where it’s safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- A report with photographs and recommendations follows.
Preparing for the visit
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
Book a survey
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Practical tips
Getting the most from a gutter survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Check downpipe clips are holding
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
- Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
- Have overhanging branches cut back
Questions about the report are welcome. With the Standard Survey there’s a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation.
Have your gutters cleared at least once a year or more frequently near trees. Late autumn, after the leaves have fallen, is a sensible time. Clear gutters can carry water away as they should.
Common roof problems in Prestwood
Plenty of tiled and slate roofs carry moss, and rain washes it down into the gutters. With grit from the coverings, it forms a thick sludge that slows the flow and gives plants somewhere to grow.
We are frequently asked to look at:
- Soffits marked by water
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Overflowing eaves gutters
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
Take a building like Prestwood Junior School: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Gutter surveys in Prestwood: local notes
About 3.4 miles south lies Hughenden Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Prestwood has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.
For landlords with property near Great Missenden station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Holy Trinity Church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.
