Tidebrook Gutter Survey
A survey of gutters, valleys, outlets and downpipes across Tidebrook, using drones and thermal imaging where applicable. Call or email for a price.
- Joints that drip after rain
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
Roof by roof
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Metal gutters can suffer at joints and where different metals meet. We record any corrosion or leaks we see.
Fascias and soffits
Fascias carry the gutters, so rot in the boards can loosen the whole run. Damaged or stained boards are recorded.
How a gutter survey works in Tidebrook
Damp patches on inside walls, stains below a valley or water running down the brickwork can often be traced to the gutters. Our gutter survey helps show whether the rainwater system is the cause, from whatever is safely visible. If the evidence points elsewhere, such as a flashing or the roof covering, we’ll say so. The next step is suggested too. If you are worried about water spilling over the gutter edge and downpipes that are split or coming away, we can find out what’s behind it, on outlets and hoppers, fascias and soffits and eaves gutters alike.
Some older homes in villages like Tidebrook are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Local roofs in Tidebrook
Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Whatever the covering, it’s frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Historic houses like Wadhurst Castle, about 2.3 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Tidebrook goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.
Living close to Wadhurst Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near The Parish Church of St John the Baptist, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. For landlords with property near Wadhurst station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Getting in touch
A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, let us know:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
We survey roofs on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and the days you’d prefer.
What happens on the day
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. For a village or hamlet like Tidebrook, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- We agree which parts of the building you’re most worried about.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Before we arrive
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Can a landlord with a rental near Wadhurst station book a roof survey?
Yes, that is a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and the report can go straight to you or your agent.
Is my home in Tidebrook listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

No, CCTV drain work isn’t part of this survey. We check gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows and note any sign that the drains need checking.

Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
- Do not leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
- Look out for overflows when it pours
If anything in the report is not clear, ask us. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation.
Have overhanging branches and climbing plants cut back from the roof by someone who can do it safely. Fewer leaves in the gutters means fewer blockages.
What a gutter survey doesn’t cover
Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Pipes below ground level
- Hidden sections we can’t view safely
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.
