Uckfield questions

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just call 07833 053749 or email us with the details.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Uckfield?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Uckfield is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

How soon will I get the report?

Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.

Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?

The survey looks at whether rainwater is spilling onto the wall, through overflows, drips or damaged downpipes. We can’t see inside walls, so we report on what’s visible.

Will I get photos?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

About our gutter survey in Uckfield

Your gutters take the rain from the roof and lead it away from the walls. If they clog, drip or sag, the water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t, frequently down the brickwork or into the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, including gutters, valleys, outlets, hoppers and downpipes. You get a written report with photos. If you are worried about leaks at the gutter joints and blocked outlets and hoppers, we can find out what’s behind it, on parapet and box gutters, eaves gutters and fascias and soffits alike.

Semis and terraces in a town like Uckfield share roof details with the neighbours. When a stack or gutter is shared, the problem may not be on your side alone. We can only inspect what we have access to, so shared parts are reported as far as they can be seen safely. It is useful to mention any shared stacks or gutters as you book.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Gutter surveys in Uckfield: local notes

Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so check with the council.

Trees in and around Hempstead Meadow shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you let a flat or house near Uckfield station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Why it is worth a survey now in Uckfield

Water spilling from a gutter runs down and soaks the wall below. Left for months, that can lead to damp inside, worn pointing and rotten timber. Spotting the problem early tends to mean a simpler fix. A defect spotted early can be planned and budgeted for, while one found after water comes through typically has to be dealt with in a hurry, in Uckfield as anywhere.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT.

Honest limits

No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
  • The inside of buried drains
  • The inside of a downpipe along its whole length

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

  • Eaves gutters
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Downpipes

How the survey changes by roof type

Plastic (uPVC) gutters

Joints that have pulled apart are a common fault on plastic gutters. The report notes every one we spot.

Aluminium and other metal gutters

On big buildings, one blocked outlet can affect a long run so outlets get close attention.

Signs you need a gutter survey in Uckfield

Most gutter joints rely on seals or sealant that wear out. Plastic sections expand and contract with the weather so their joints can start to leak. Cast iron joints can corrode and part once the paint has worn away.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Downpipes that are split or coming away
  • Gutters full of debris and silt
  • Water spilling over the gutter edge
  • Dripping or leaking gutter joints

Anyone responsible for a site like St Philip's Catholic Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report

What to expect from a roof survey

What we do, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In Uckfield, parking is rarely complicated, though it helps to know about driveways or restrictions. The inspection covers what can safely be seen from outside, from windows and from the roof space, and from the roof itself where it’s safe.

  1. First, we agree the areas to focus on.
  2. Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
  3. Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
  4. We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
  5. Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
