Gutter survey in Wickhambreaux, Kent
A survey of gutters, valleys, outlets and downpipes in Wickhambreaux. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
- Leaks at the gutter joints
How the survey works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Around Wickhambreaux, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- First, you let us know what you’ve seen, such as overflows or damp.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can be seen safely.
- Where the loft can be reached safely, we check it for staining or damp.
- You get a written report with photographs and recommendations.

Gutter survey in Wickhambreaux
Your gutters take the rain from the roof and lead it away from the walls. If they clog, drip or sag, the water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t and that typically means the walls or the inside of the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, from eaves gutters and valleys to outlets, hoppers and downpipes. You get a written report with photos. We survey fascias and soffits, outlets and hoppers and eaves gutters, and the problems we are asked to look at most are leaves and moss blocking gutters and gutters overflowing in heavy rain.
In a small place like Wickhambreaux, many roofs stand in the open, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Keep these in mind:
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Wickhambreaux
About 3.4 miles south-east lies Goodnestone Park, a reminder of how long the area around Wickhambreaux has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wickhambreaux Church of England Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Andrew, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Landlords with a home close to Bekesbourne station may find that a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.

Tips that help
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Have gutters cleared at least once a year
- Watch for green marks down the brickwork
- Do not leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
Landlords and managing agents can keep the report with the building’s records and use it to plan upkeep. The photos help when you explain the work to others.
Don’t forget valley, parapet and box gutters. They block in the same way as the gutters you can see but you can’t check them from the street, so check they’re included in any clearing work.
Roof by roof
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Metal gutters are common on commercial buildings and some homes. Their joints and outlets still need checking.
Fascias and soffits
On buildings from before 2000, soffits may be asbestos cement. Any we think could be are flagged so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check them before they’re disturbed.
Common questions in Wickhambreaux
Will you come out to Wickhambreaux?
Yes. Wickhambreaux is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Wickhambreaux?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Can the survey be at a weekend?
Yes. Surveys are carried out seven days a week. To find a day that suits, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?
There is no wrong time. If water is already spilling over, book sooner rather than later, because the walls take the water.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
How long will you be on site?
For a house, expect about 1–2 hours on site, and longer for larger or complex roofs.
Why it is worth a survey now in Wickhambreaux
Our report is a dated record of what we found, which helps when you plan work or brief a contractor. Without one, it’s guesswork from ground level. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Wickhambreaux, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

What you can safely check yourself
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
