What new roof snagging looks like in Farnborough

Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings frequently carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whether you’re buying or checking new roofing work, knowing the materials helps make sense of what the inspection finds.

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of All Saints, ask the seller about past roof repairs, because older roofs often have patched valleys, replaced slates and reset ridges.

New roof snagging for homes and businesses in Farnborough

Snagging means finding the small faults and loose ends left at the end of a job. On a roof, snags are often at the edges and junctions where the work is most fiddly. We inspect as far as can safely be seen and record what we find. Typical snags include loose ridge tiles, poorly dressed flashings and debris left in gutters. If you’re worried about tiles or slates sitting out of line and cracked lower roofs or marked walls after the work, we can find out what’s behind it.

For a small place like Farnborough, the visit is planned like any other: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed ahead of time. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them when you book. Whether you are buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

What we are asked to look at in Farnborough

Snags happen on many building jobs. Details at ridges, verges and flashings are easy to rush particularly in poor weather.

Things that frequently lead to a survey include:

  • Signs of condensation in the loft space
  • Loose flashings at walls or chimneys
  • Gutters or fascias damaged during the job
  • Loose or badly finished ridge tiles

For any home in Farnborough, it is the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.

What a good roof survey covers

How the survey works

You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes an hour or two for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a small place like Farnborough, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. First, we note any deadlines and concerns.
  2. We inspect as far as safe access allows.
  3. Each detail at ridges, verges, valleys and flashings is looked at.
  4. We check the gutters, lower roofs and walls for debris or damage.
  5. We send a written report you can pass on.

Before we arrive

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Keep pets in another room

Advice

DIY checks: what’s safe

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

How the survey changes by roof type

Valleys

Debris left in a new valley can block it. We note anything left behind.

Ridges, hips and verges

Loose ridge or hip tiles are a common snag. We photograph any we find.

For landlords and managing agents

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

Common questions in Farnborough

Do you cover smaller places like Farnborough?

Yes, Farnborough is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Do you cover Farnborough?

Yes, Farnborough is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Farnborough as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

What does a new roof inspection cost?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. The price depends on the size of the roof and the access. For a price, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we will arrange another day with you.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

How many surveys have you done?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

Why act early in Farnborough

Some faults only show when water gets in. An inspection before that point gives you a record of the roof as handed over. Around Farnborough, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both with VAT included. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.
