New roof snagging for homes and businesses in Piddington
A new roof needs to breathe. Where vents have been fitted at the ridge or eaves, we check them and look in the roof space for condensation. We note what we can see. Missing or blocked ventilation can lead to condensation over time, so it’s worth raising early. We record what we see. We are often asked to look into vents that weren’t fitted or are covered and gaps at new flashings, across new-build homes, ridges and verges and replacement roofs.
Older buildings in small places like Piddington may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials a new roof may use, so check with the council and Historic England’s list. For a buyer or someone with a newly finished roof, it’s worth knowing which applies. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

When you need someone else
A survey is a proper look at the new roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:
- Whether the roof will leak in future
- Pricing the remedial work
- Parts of the roof we cannot see safely
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.

Your questions about new roof snagging in Piddington
Do you cover smaller places like Piddington?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Do you cover Piddington?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Piddington is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
What if it rains on the day?
It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.
How the survey works
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. You’re welcome to ask questions while we are there. Cottages and farmhouses around Piddington often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
- The new coverings, ridge, hips and verges are inspected where it’s safe to see them.
- We check valleys, flashings and gutters, and the underlay at the eaves where it’s visible.
- Where it is safe, we check the loft, then look for debris or damage left behind.
- You get a photo report listing the snags we found.
Getting ready for the survey
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Advice
Buying a home or a new roof in Piddington
West Wycombe Park House, about 1.1 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Piddington. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Each material has its own typical faults, which is what a buyer or the owner of a new roof needs to know about.
Take an older house close to St Lawrence's Church: a survey will show how the roof has been repaired before, which helps you judge what’s coming. Landlords with a home close to Saunderton station may find that a written report helps before buying a rental or paying for a new roof on one.

Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:
- Agree snagging with your roofer at the start
- Check that gutters weren’t left full of offcuts
- Walk round the house to look for knock-on damage
- Check the roof before you pay in full
Once the snags have been dealt with, keep the report with your roof paperwork. It records the roof’s condition at that point.
Tell your roofer at the start that the work will be inspected. Everyone then knows what to expect and time is set aside for snags.
Can I check my roof myself?
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking.
