Wheeler End New Roof Snagging
We carry out new roof snagging in Wheeler End and the rest of Buckinghamshire. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.
- Loose or badly finished ridge tiles
- Poorly finished verges
- Offcuts and broken tiles left behind
Why act early in Wheeler End
Leaving debris in gutters can cause overflows that soak walls. Spotting it now saves chasing damp later. For an older or listed building in a place like Wheeler End, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. New roof snagging starts from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

New roof snagging in Wheeler End: what you get
Our report records what we see with photos and plain descriptions. Any dispute about the work is between you and your roofer or builder. What we provide is an independent record of the roof’s condition. The report doesn’t price repairs or settle who is responsible, but it describes what we saw in plain terms. Typical surveys look at debris left in gutters or valleys and flashings not properly dressed or fixed, across new flat roofs, ridges and verges and new-build homes.
In a village or hamlet like Wheeler End, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Village roofs can be clay tile, slate, stone or even thatch on some older buildings. Whether you are buying or have just had a roof replaced, each material has its own checks. What’s under the coverings, from old felt to the battens and nails, matters too.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Tips from our surveys
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Keep the contract and invoices together
- Look for new stains after a downpour
- Raise snags in writing with your roofer
- Check the roof before you pay in full
Questions about the findings are welcome. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and Premium an in-person consultation.
Agree the snagging inspection with your roofer before the job starts. It sets clear expectations and leaves time for snags to be fixed.
DIY checks: what’s safe
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
How the survey works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photographs. On timing, most surveys take an hour or two at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Around Wheeler End, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by finding out what was replaced and what worries you.
- The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can be seen safely.
- Flashings, valleys, gutters and visible underlay at the eaves are looked at.
- The roof space is checked where safe, along with any mess or damage left after the work.
- You get a photo report listing the snags we found.
Preparing for the visit
- Find any records of previous roof work
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Check we can get to the back of the property

New roof snagging in Wheeler End: local notes
About 1.7 miles north-east lies West Wycombe Park House, a reminder of how long the area around Wheeler End has been built on. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. The covering on a house you’re buying, or on a roof just finished, tells us where to look hardest.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of the Holy Trinity, older patch repairs can hide behind a tidy front slope, and the survey looks past them. For landlords with property near Saunderton station, a survey before purchase, or before signing off a new roof, saves surprises once a tenant moves in.

What this survey can’t tell you
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Details hidden from sight
- How the roof will perform for years to come
- Fixings and underlay hidden under the coverings
