New roof snagging in The Village
Snagging means finding the small faults and loose ends left at the end of a job. Roof snags frequently show at ridges, verges, valleys and flashings where the work is most fiddly. We check everything we can see safely and record what we find. Loose ridges, untidy verges, badly dressed flashings and leftover debris are typical snags. We survey loft conversions and dormers, flashings and valleys and replacement roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are loose or badly finished ridge tiles and loose flashings at walls or chimneys.
Being in a small place like The Village makes no difference to the inspection itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. If there are outbuildings with roofs you want checked, mention them when you book. Buyers and owners of new roofs get the same approach as anywhere. Weekday and weekend visits are both available.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Common questions in The Village
Will you come out to The Village?
Yes. The Village is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in The Village?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
Will you deal with my roofer if there is a problem?
No. We report on what we see. Any dispute is between you and your roofer or builder, and the report gives you a clear record to refer to.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
When you need someone else
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- Details hidden from sight
- Fixings and underlay hidden under the coverings
- Settling a dispute with your roofer or builder
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Replacement roofs
- New-build homes
- Flashings and valleys
- Loft conversions and dormers
- New flat roofs
- Ridges and verges
Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
Tips that help
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Look for marks or cracks left by the work
- Look for debris left in gutters from ground level
- Keep warranty papers safe
- Watch for drips in the roof space with care
The report lists each snag with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. Pass it on to your roofer or builder.
Don’t settle the final bill until the roof has been inspected if your contract allows it. It keeps the job open until it’s right.
Local roofs and buyers in The Village
About 1.7 miles north lies St Leonard's Hill, a reminder of how long the area around The Village has been built on. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most.
If you own a rental within reach of Windsor & Eton Central station, the roof is worth checking before you add another property to a portfolio or pay a roofer in full.

How it works
Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much new work there is to check. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere like The Village needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- We agree what to focus on, such as a payment date or a warranty period ending.
- The roof is inspected from ground level, vantage points and the roof where safe.
- We work through ridges, verges, valleys and flashings.
- Debris and damage to other parts are recorded.
- We send a written report you can pass on.
Getting ready for the survey
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Leave side gates unlocked
