Buying a home or a new roof in Wonersh
The wider area around Wonersh has a long history of building, with Chilworth Manor about 1.7 miles north. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. The covering on a house you are buying, or on a roof just finished, tells us where to look hardest.
If you own a rental within reach of Chilworth station, a survey before purchase, or before signing off a new roof, saves surprises once a tenant moves in. The streets around a church such as Wonersh United Reformed Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older patch repairs can hide behind a tidy front slope, and the survey looks past them.

New roof snagging for homes and businesses in Wonersh
We report on what we see, with photos and clear descriptions. If there’s a disagreement about the work, it is between you and your roofer or builder. Our report gives you an independent record to refer to. The report does not price repairs or settle who is responsible, but it describes what we saw in plain terms. We’re often asked to look into gutters or fascias damaged during the job and vents that weren’t fitted or are covered, across new-build homes, new flat roofs and loft conversions and dormers.
Older buildings in small places like Wonersh may be listed or in a conservation area. If so, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so check with the council before work starts. Whether you’re buying or signing off new roofing, it is worth knowing where you stand, as well as what condition the roof is in. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Your questions about new roof snagging in Wonersh
Will you come out to Wonersh?
Yes, Wonersh is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Wonersh is listed?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
What’s the best time to have a new roof checked?
Ideally before you make the final payment, while the roofer is still on hand. Otherwise, book before your defects or warranty period runs out.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
Do you get involved if the roofer disagrees with the report?
No. We report on what we see. Any dispute is between you and your roofer or builder and our report gives you an independent record.
Checking the roof from ground level
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Why get it checked now?
A clear list of snags makes the conversation with your roofer easier. It keeps things factual. Outbuildings and barns around Wonersh are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Tips from our surveys
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Watch for drips in the roof space with care
- Send the snagging report to your roofer
- Walk round the house to look for knock-on damage
- Let your roofer know an inspection is planned
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. That’s worth bearing in mind if a payment date is close.
Put the warranty or defects period end date in your diary. Book a check well before it so there’s time to raise anything.

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
What happens on the day
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey usually takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Wonersh frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely.
- We ask what work was done and when it was finished.
- The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can be seen safely.
- We check valleys, flashings and gutters, and the underlay at the eaves where it’s visible.
- The loft space is looked at where safe, along with any mess or damage left after the work.
- You get a photo report listing the snags we found.
How to prepare
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Note where any stains or damp appear
Book a survey
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
