Roof leak investigations for homes and businesses in Inhurst
Not every drip is a leak. In a badly ventilated roof space, condensation can form under the roof and drip, leaving marks that look just like rainwater. Telling the two apart matters, since the cure for one won’t solve the other. We look at the pattern of damp, the weather and the ventilation before reaching a view. Common reasons to book are water marks that spread in wet weather and staining around the chimney inside, across chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and rooflights and dormers.
For a small place like Inhurst, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Let us know where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

FAQs for Inhurst
Will you come out to Inhurst?
Yes, Inhurst is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Inhurst?
Yes, Inhurst is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. You can phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Can thermal imaging help find my roof leak?
Where conditions suit, it can. The best results come after a sunny day, on a dry roof with little wind. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, which can show up on the image. Its findings are confirmed with a moisture check.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
What does the report include?
A photo-illustrated written report, covering the condition of the leaking roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How much does a roof leak investigation cost in Inhurst?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it is agreed before booking.
Can every leak be traced?
Not always, and we’ll be honest about that. Some leaks hide well, particularly those that need wind-driven rain. Where the source is not certain, we list the likely routes in order.
What this survey cannot tell you
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- Leaks that only appear in weather we cannot recreate
- Leaks from plumbing, tanks or pipework rather than the roof
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Lead flashings
- The roof space
- Slate and tile slopes
- Chimney stacks
- Rooflights and dormers
- Flat roof details
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Keep a photo record of the damp patch
- Leave roof access to professionals
- Have an electrician check any wet fittings
Standard includes a follow-up consultation to talk the findings through, and Premium includes an in-person consultation. You can ask us about anything that isn’t clear.
Have flashings and flat roofs looked at every few years. Flashings, valleys and flat roof details are frequent weak points, and wear is easier to deal with before water gets in.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Lingering damp encourages mould on ceilings and walls. It’s unpleasant, and it is harder to deal with once established. Stopping the water is the first step. Older and listed buildings around Inhurst may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Leaks and storm damage in Inhurst
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. If your home is older, it is worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.
For landlords with property near Midgham station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Take a building like The Hurst School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. If you live in an older home near Saint Mary's Church, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.
How the survey works
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, though a hard-to-trace leak can take longer. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere like Inhurst needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
