Roof Leak Investigation in Temple Valley
Wondering about the leaking roof at a property in Temple Valley? We carry out roof leak investigations in Temple Valley and across Hampshire, with plain-English findings.
- Wet patches high on an inside wall
- Water through the ceiling under a flat roof
- Water marks that spread in wet weather
Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Write down the wind direction and rain when it leaks
- Clear the loft hatch so we can get in
- Stay off ladders and the roof
- Let us know if there are tanks or pipes in the loft
Your report arrives by email, with photographs of what we found. It explains the likely entry point, the route the water takes and our recommendations. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Good airflow reduces condensation, which is often mistaken for a leak. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Roof leak investigation in Temple Valley: what you get
On a flat roof, water can travel a long way under the covering. Common causes are splits and blisters, tired upstands and outlets that do not drain. Standing water puts extra pressure on every weak point. We look at the roof surface and the ceiling below. Flat roofs over extensions, garages and dormers are frequent sources of leaks. An ageing felt roof is a frequent culprit. We survey slate and tile slopes, lead flashings and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are drips from nail tips in a cold loft and water marks that spread in wet weather.
In a village or hamlet like Temple Valley, older cottages and farmhouses frequently have roofs that have been patched over many years. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Honest limits
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- Carrying out the fix
- Water from pipes, tanks or heating systems
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Roof leak investigations in Temple Valley: local notes
With Hinton Ampner House about 4.2 miles east, Temple Valley sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.

Temple Valley questions
Will you come out to Temple Valley?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you cover Temple Valley?
Yes, Temple Valley is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What’s in the survey report?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.
How do you tell a leak from condensation?
Condensation can look very like a leak. Drips from nail tips, damp underlay over a wide area and poor loft ventilation point towards condensation. We look at the pattern, take moisture readings and tell you which is more likely.
How much is a survey?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it is agreed before booking.

What affects the cost of roof leak investigations
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Height and safe access
- The size of the roof
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.
What we need to know
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- When you need the report by
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you are ready.
Do you need a roof leak investigation in Temple Valley?
Many leaks begin at a flashing. Lead or mortar closes the gap wherever a roof meets a wall, chimney or dormer. Once that seal cracks or lifts, water gets behind it.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Wet patches high on an inside wall
- Wet patches on loft insulation
- Staining around the chimney inside
- Water marks that spread in wet weather
If you let a flat or house near Winchester station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- How long the report takes to arrive
How it works
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, though a hard-to-trace leak can take longer. Rural addresses near Temple Valley can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You let us know where the water shows and when it appears.
- The visit starts indoors, at the stain and in the loft.
- Likely entry points outside are checked, from flashings and valleys to gutters and outlets.
- We use moisture detection, and thermal imaging where it is useful.
- You receive a written report with photos showing the likely source and what needs attention.
Before we arrive
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
