Roof survey in Abinger Hammer: what you get
Our roof surveys cover Abinger Hammer and the wider South East. Visits run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. When you are ready to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. If you’ve noticed loose ridge or hip tiles and condensation or damp timbers in the loft, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as Abinger Hammer, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. On older roofs, it is typically the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Roof surveys in Abinger Hammer: local notes
If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Abinger Hammer questions
How do I find out if my home in Abinger Hammer is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can a landlord with a rental near Gomshall station book a roof survey?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.

Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, plus the roof space where there’s safe access. The report includes photos and recommendations.

Yes, we can. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we will say so.

Yes, where it’s applicable. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

How it works
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Rural addresses near Abinger Hammer can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We look at the roof from every safe viewpoint outside.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.
Before the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Advice
Why get it checked now?
A small roof defect normally gets bigger. One slipped slate lets water reach the battens and underlay, and wet timber starts to decay. Finding it early keeps the work smaller. For older village homes like those around Abinger Hammer, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we can help you choose.

Do you need a roof survey in Abinger Hammer?
Slates and tiles often outlast the fixings that hold them. On slate roofs, corroded nails let slates slip, which is known as ‘nail fatigue’. On tiled roofs, battens and pegs can rot, letting tiles move.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Torn or sagging underlay
- Blocked, sagging or leaking gutters
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
Trees in and around Colekitchen Down shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters.
Questions to ask before you book
- What they won’t be able to tell you
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
- What follow-up you get after the report
- What exactly goes into their report
What this survey can’t tell you
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- A full building survey of the property
- A structural engineer’s report
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Chimney stacks
- Natural slate
- Lead flashings
- The roof space
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- Flat roofs
Can I check my roof myself?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
