Roof survey in Berechurch, Essex
Need a roof survey in Berechurch? We can help, with a written report you can act on. Book a weekday or weekend visit.
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Loose chimney pots
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roof coverings
Standing water, blisters and splits all point to wear. Upstands and outlets are checked too.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Mortar at ridges and verges often cracks on tiled roofs. We check for loose ridge tiles and missing mortar.
Roof survey in Berechurch
We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it’s safe. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging and, where applicable, a drone, for roofs that are hard to see well. You do not need to do anything except give us access. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. If you are worried about gaps in the roof where coverings have gone and cracked mortar along the ridge, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Berechurch drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls. It’s the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from the ground.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

What we do, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Berechurch is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- We check the roof from every safe vantage point, inside and out.
- Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.
Getting in touch
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- Where the property is, with the postcode
You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Common roof problems in Berechurch
Some damage starts inside the loft space. Poor ventilation lets condensation build up in the loft, and the damp gets into timbers and insulation. It can look like a leak.
Common reasons to book include:
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
- Debris building up in roof valleys
Take an older house close to St Margarets: its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.
What to check before booking
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- What they will not be able to tell you
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- How soon the report will arrive
FAQs for Berechurch
Does being near the coast affect roofs in Berechurch?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details like ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch, and Berechurch is within about 4 miles of the coast.
Will you come out to Berechurch?
Yes. Berechurch is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
What do you check on a roof survey?
We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, plus the loft space where there’s safe access. You get a written report with photos and recommendations.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. Our survey looks at the condition of the roof, and Standard and Premium include structural checks. It doesn’t include structural calculations, which need an engineer.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
Are you insured?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Berechurch
Berechurch lies within about 4 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
Take a building like Cherry Tree Academy: its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If you let a flat or house near Colchester Town station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
