Jersey Farm Roof Survey
A roof condition survey for homes and buildings across Jersey Farm, with drones and thermal imaging where they help. Get in touch for a price.
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Debris building up in roof valleys
How the survey works
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes between one and two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Jersey Farm is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Tell us about parking before the day

About our roof survey in Jersey Farm
There are three levels of survey: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The Basic Survey gives a visual inspection, photographs and written recommendations. The higher packages add more checks, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where applicable. Every package includes a written report. Common reasons to book are condensation or damp timbers in the loft and flashings that have come away from the wall, across natural slate, the roof space and flat roofs.
Around Jersey Farm, older cottages sit alongside bungalows and newer houses. Coverings range from slate and clay tiles on older homes to concrete tiles on many later ones. Chimneys, valleys and gutters on older homes often need the most attention, and the fixings under the coverings matter too. Nails and battens under older coverings often give out before the slates or tiles themselves.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Roof surveys in Jersey Farm: local notes
If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The wider area around Jersey Farm has a long history of building, with Childwickbury Manor about 2.3 miles west. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Shop and office owners around The Maltings may find that a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak. If you let a flat or house near St Albans station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

How the survey changes by roof type
Concrete interlocking tiles
Interlocking tiles on shallow roofs depend on their laps and fixings. We look for lifted, cracked or slipped tiles, especially at the verges and ridge.
Lead flashings and valleys
Many older houses have lead in their valleys and hidden gutters. Worn or split lead lets water straight in, and lead is a target for theft.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Jersey Farm
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
What you can safely check yourself
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Why get it checked now?
A small roof defect typically gets bigger. One slipped slate lets water reach the battens and underlay, and wet timber starts to decay. Finding it early keeps the work smaller. Around Jersey Farm, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Your questions about roof surveys in Jersey Farm
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Jersey Farm?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you cover smaller places like Jersey Farm?
Yes. Jersey Farm is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
Does someone need to be in?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
Every part of the roof we can safely see: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Higher packages add moisture detection, structural checks, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies.
How quickly will I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. It’s emailed to you.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we’ll say so.
Common roof problems in Jersey Farm
Chimneys stand exposed above the roof. Pointing erodes, flaunching cracks and pots work loose. Damp on a chimney breast inside often starts at the top of the stack.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
- Valley linings that have cracked or split
If you live near a park such as Clarence Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.
