Jersey Farm Chimney Survey
We take a careful look at the chimney stack at your property in Jersey Farm, and put it all in a report with photographs.
- Flaunching that has broken away
- Signs that a stack is leaning
- Frost-damaged brickwork on the stack
What affects the cost of chimney surveys
Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- House, block, shop or office
- The size of the roof
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £150, including VAT.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- The address and postcode of the property
If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
Chimney survey in Jersey Farm
We inspect chimneys from wherever they can be seen safely: the ground, nearby windows and higher points, and the roof space where it’s safe. A drone inspection is part of our Premium Survey where it applies. Where part of a stack can’t be seen, the report says so. Each defect is recorded with a photo and a plain description. We survey shared and party-wall stacks, chimney pots and cowls and chimney breasts, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are pots or cowls that look unsafe and flaunching that has broken away.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Jersey Farm drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below. It is the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from the ground.
If any part of the chimney stack couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

FAQs for Jersey Farm
Will you come out to Jersey Farm?
Yes. Jersey Farm is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How do I find out if my home in Jersey Farm is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Do you inspect shared chimneys?
Yes. We check the parts we can see safely and the parts you can give us access to. Where a problem appears to be on next door’s side, we note it and you can raise it with them.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.
How fast do I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
Roof by roof
Chimney pots and cowls
A loose or cracked pot can fall from height. We record their condition with photos.
Lead flashings
Some older stacks have mortar fillets instead of lead. They tend to crack, so we look at them closely.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Jersey Farm
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run seven days a week, which can make access easier.
Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Checking the roof from ground level
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
What a chimney survey looks like in Jersey Farm
Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters. The wider area around Jersey Farm has a long history of building, with Childwickbury Manor about 2.3 miles west. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
The streets around a church such as Saint Mary's are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Shop and office owners around The Maltings may find that a dated report on the roof is useful for planning and for any lease discussions. Homes near green spaces such as Clarence Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.

How it works
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take an hour or two at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Being in a smaller place like Jersey Farm does not change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- First we talk through the stacks, their history and any problems.
- Each stack is inspected from safe positions outside.
- We photograph and record the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
- We look for damp on chimney breasts and in the loft space.
- The report, with photos and recommendations, is emailed to you.
Getting ready for the survey

Advice
Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Look at the chimneys with binoculars after a storm
- Keep the report to compare against at the next survey
- Book a sweep for flues that are in use
- Ask about consent before removing a chimney on an older property
After the visit, we write up the report with photographs of each stack. It covers the pots, flaunching, pointing, brickwork and flashings, and any damp we found inside. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.
Make sure fixings on the stack are sound, and moved if they’re working it loose. Less load on the stack means less strain in wind.
