Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Lurgashall

Our roof surveys cover Lurgashall and the wider South East. Visits run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. When you’re ready to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. We survey flat roofs, chimney stacks and the roof space, and people most frequently book us about leaning or weathered chimney stacks and blocked, sagging or leaking gutters.

In a village or hamlet like Lurgashall, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.

The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

How the survey works

The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Older rural homes like those around Lurgashall can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
  2. On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
  3. We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
  4. Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

What happens if roof problems are left?

It is easier to plan roof work than to react to it. With a report, you can tackle the urgent jobs first and plan the rest, rather than waiting for something to fail. Outbuildings and barns around Lurgashall are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, access and the package you choose.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roof coverings

Standing water, blisters and splits all point to wear. We also look at the edges, upstands and outlets, since leaks frequently start there.

Clay plain and peg tiles

Clay tiles are common on older South East homes, and some have Kent peg tiles held by pegs. When pegs or battens rot, tiles slip.

Lurgashall questions

How do I find out if my home in Lurgashall is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you cover smaller places like Lurgashall?

Yes. Lurgashall is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?

Yes, the part you own or can give access to. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared chimneys and party-wall upstands are checked from your side.

Will you check the loft?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

When will the report arrive?

The Premium Survey has a same-day report, Standard 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photos.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?

No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.

Checking the roof from the ground

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Roof surveys around Lurgashall

In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near The Parish Church of St Lawrence, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. If you own a rental within reach of Haslemere station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

What we’re asked to look at in Lurgashall

Slates and tiles often outlast the fixings that hold them. On slate roofs, corroded nails let slates slip, which is known as ‘nail fatigue’. On tiled roofs, battens and pegs can rot.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
  • Loose chimney pots
  • Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
  • Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings

Petworth House, about 3.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Lurgashall. Older roofs nearby frequently mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is.

What to check before booking

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • What experience they bring
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
