Roof Survey in Udimore
Roof surveys in Udimore from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys.
- Cracked or blistered flat roof coverings
- Loose chimney pots
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
How the survey works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere as small as Udimore, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- Outside, we inspect from ground level, windows and other safe vantage points, and from the roof where safe.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at

Roof survey in Udimore
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have seen a mark on a ceiling or bits of tile in the garden, others want a check before selling or after years without one. Whatever the reason, the survey works the same way: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, so finding a time is rarely difficult. If you’ve noticed worn or blocked valleys and crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Udimore are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is frequently expected.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Udimore
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.
Udimore homes and their roofs
Udimore is within about 4 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Whatever the covering, it is often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
If you own a rental within reach of Winchelsea station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. With Lamb House about 3.4 miles east, the area around Udimore has a long history. If yours is one of the older homes, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up.

Practical tips
Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:
- Do not climb onto the roof yourself
- Gather any paperwork for past roof work
- Take photos of any leaks as they happen
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
If you need work done, the report gives roofers a clear brief. They’ll see each defect and its location, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation builds up when air can’t move, and it can wet timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of eaves vents.
What this survey can’t tell you
It is useful to know what a survey will not do before you book:
- A structural engineer’s report
- A full building survey of the property
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

Common roof problems in Udimore
A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Valley and parapet gutters can overflow inside the building, especially near trees.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
- Loose chimney pots
- Condensation or damp timbers in the loft
Take an older house close to The Parish Church of St Mary: the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.
What to check before booking
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- Is VAT included in the price?
