Roof surveys in Upper Eddington: local notes
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Hungerford Methodist Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Take a building like Hungerford Primary School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you let a flat or house near Hungerford station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

Roof survey in Upper Eddington: what you get
Most houses have more than one roof to look at. Rear extensions, dormers, porches and garages often have flat roofs. They’re included alongside the main roof, including signs of standing water, splits and tired upstands. Flat roofs frequently need attention long before the main roof. Felt frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, while EPDM rubber can last 30 to 50. We’re often asked to look into slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and valley linings that have cracked or split, across clay and concrete tiles, the roof space and ridges, hips and valleys.
In a small place like Upper Eddington, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Questions from Upper Eddington
Do you cover smaller places like Upper Eddington?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can a landlord with a rental near Hungerford station book a roof survey?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. Our survey looks at the condition of the roof, and Standard and Premium include structural checks. It doesn’t include structural calculations, which need an engineer.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
Every part of the roof we can safely see: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check, and Premium adds thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
How do I book a survey in Upper Eddington?
To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
When you need someone else
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
When you are ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Valley gutters and parapet gutters are out of sight until they overflow. When they do, water comes straight into the house. We check them before they cause trouble. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Upper Eddington, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Checking the roof from the ground
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Upper Eddington
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photos included.

The survey, step by step
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. All told, expect about one to two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Older roofs in small places like Upper Eddington can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- You pick the package that suits your roof.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Leave a clear route to the loft
