About our roof survey in Wickham
We survey roofs in Wickham and across London and the South East. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We’re insured for professional indemnity and public liability. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Whether it is a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. If you’ve noticed valley linings that have cracked or split and slates or tiles that have slipped or broken, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Wickham, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Leave it or get it looked at?
It’s easier to plan roof work than to react to it. A survey lets you deal with things in order of urgency, rather than waiting for something to fail. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
All our prices include VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking.

Checking the roof from the ground
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
How it works
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Wickham often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- You let us know about the property and any concerns.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- We look at the roof from every safe vantage point, inside and out.
- Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey

- Jot down any questions you want answered

Wickham questions
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Kintbury station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us with the details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Will you come out to Wickham?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
Is your survey a structural engineer’s report?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, such as serious sagging, we’ll say so. We do not provide structural calculations.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Can you look at a roof that is joined to next door?
Yes, the part you own or can give access to. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared chimneys and party-wall upstands are looked at from your side.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.

What else we do in Wickham
What a survey costs
Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- How big the roof is
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Booking your survey
We will usually ask about:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- What kind of property and roof it is
When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
What we cannot see
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- The condition of the rest of the building (that is a RICS home survey)
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

Useful tips for Wickham property owners
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Find records of any re-roofing or repairs
- Include dormers, porches and garages when booking
- Check the roof from the ground after storms
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. They’ll see each defect and its location, which makes quotes easier to compare.
Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. Watch for stains, damp timbers and daylight through the roof. Photograph anything new.
Roof surveys in Wickham: local notes
In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. About 3.7 miles south-east lies Benham Park, a reminder of how long the area around Wickham has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Swithin, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. Landlords with a home close to Kintbury station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. Anyone responsible for a site like Welford and Wickham C.E. Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
