Storm damage roof report in Bledlow Ridge: what you get

Wear and tear is usually excluded from home insurance. That makes the difference between storm damage and old wear important. Our report records both: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems such as corroded nails or worn mortar. We give an honest view of what we see. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. If you’ve noticed slipped or missing slates or tiles and damage from fallen branches or debris, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on ridges and hips, chimney stacks and slate and tile slopes alike.

In a village or hamlet like Bledlow Ridge, older cottages and farmhouses often have roofs that have been patched over many years. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it is worth finding the cause soon.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect what can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Somewhere like Bledlow Ridge needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Bledlow Ridge: your questions answered

Will you come out to Bledlow Ridge?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

How do I find out if my home in Bledlow Ridge is listed?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

How many surveys have you done?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we will agree the details as you book.

What do I do if water is coming in?

Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. If it is safe, photograph the damage before it’s covered. Keep receipts in case your insurer asks for them.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Checking the roof from ground level

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Bledlow Ridge

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. With West Wycombe Park House about 2.9 miles south-east, Bledlow Ridge sits in an area with a long building history. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Paul, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. Landlords with a home close to Saunderton station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. Take a building like Bledlow Ridge School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Why it is worth a survey now in Bledlow Ridge

Leaving storm damage can let water into the roof space and rooms below. Further water damage can blur what the storm actually did. A roofer should deal with emergency protection quickly. Around Bledlow Ridge, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.

Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.
