About our storm damage roof report in Brasted
Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: from the ground, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. We note any part we couldn’t see. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. If you’ve noticed damage from fallen branches or debris and flat roof edges peeled back, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, ridges and hips and gutters and fascias alike.
Water getting into a London home often comes from a detail you can’t see from the street: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. For a leak or storm damage in Brasted, those hidden details are where the inspection begins. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:
- Take photos from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it is safe to do so
- Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
- Check your policy for how to report damage
Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. Our report gives you an independent record alongside theirs.
Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. Branches can hit or scrape the roof in a storm.
Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Brasted
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Brasted?
It depends on the street. If Brasted has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer.
Is Brasted in the area you cover?
Yes, Brasted is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
What wind speed counts as a storm?
There is no single figure. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies. Your policy document will say.
Can I challenge a declined storm claim?
The first step is a complaint to your insurer. After that, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to look at it. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we can’t predict the outcome.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when booking.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
What a survey costs
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- The roof’s overall size
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

When you need someone else
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- The outcome of a claim
- How your policy defines a storm
- Repair costs or quotes for the work
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.

- Gutters and fascias
What happens on the day
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a London conversion, the way into the roof space is often from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photos.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
How to book
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

For landlords and managing agents
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time.
Can I check my roof myself?
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Wind, rain and roofs in Brasted
The wider area around Brasted has a long history of building, with Quebec House about 1.5 miles south-west. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. If your home in Brasted is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.
As a London address, Brasted can be tricky for parking: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking, as a space near the door cannot be promised. Landlords with a home close to Dunton Green station may find that finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Take an older house close to Church of St Martin: lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.
