About our storm damage roof report in Cliffe
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It is yours to pass to your insurer. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We’re not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. Common reasons to book are lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles and damage from fallen branches or debris, on flat roofs, gutters and fascias and chimney stacks.
For a small place like Cliffe, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Let us know where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.
After the visit, you get a report with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

The survey, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. All in, the survey typically takes about one to two hours for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Cliffe, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photos.
Getting ready for the survey
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Cliffe questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Cliffe?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you cover smaller places like Cliffe?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Will you deal with the insurance company for me?
No. We are not loss adjusters, and we do not negotiate claims. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.
My storm claim was turned down. What now?
Raise it with your insurer first. If it isn’t resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
That is not something we can promise. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Can I check the roof after a storm?
Only from the ground or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from ground level, and we’ll record the rest.
Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Older stacks with worn pointing or cracked flaunching are more likely to suffer. We record both the storm damage and the older wear.
Flat roof coverings
Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. Damage is photographed and described.
Checking the roof from ground level
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Cliffe
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or email us with the addresses.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Cliffe
Branches and trees frequently come down on roofs during storms. We record the damage and where it is, with photos.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
- Flat roof edges peeled back
- Damage from fallen branches or debris
- Lead lifted at abutments
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Helen's Church of England Primary School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
Questions to ask before booking
- What follow-up you get after the report
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Their report turnaround times
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
Wind, rain and roofs in Cliffe
Cliffe is within about 2 miles of the coast, where storms can bring strong gusts off the sea. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording, and many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, though it varies. The wider area around Cliffe has a long history of building, with Temple Manor about 4.9 miles south. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you own a rental within reach of Higham station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. The streets around a church such as Church of St Helen are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney.

Prices for storm damage roof reports in Cliffe
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.
