About our storm damage roof report in Compton
Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, windows and vantage points, the loft where there is access, and the roof itself where that’s safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. We note any part we couldn’t see. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. We are often asked to look into ridge tiles that have come loose and damaged gutters and fascias, on ridges and hips, flashings and chimney stacks.
Somewhere as small as Compton, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Compton
Many policies expect damage to be reported promptly. Check the wording and tell your insurer as soon as you can. An independent report can follow. In a place like Compton, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

FAQs for Compton
Is Compton within the area you cover?
Yes, Compton is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Compton?
Yes, Compton is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Compton as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. It does not include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for those.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How the survey works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a hamlet or village like Compton, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Before the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
Booking a survey

Related advice
Do you need a storm damage roof report in Compton?
Roofs that were already worn are more likely to suffer in a storm. Nail fatigue, eroded ridge mortar and tired flashings can all fail in high winds. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Broken or displaced guttering
- Damaged ridges and hips
- Roofs hit by falling trees
- Lead lifted at abutments
For landlords with property near Farncombe station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Compton
The wider area around Compton has a long history of building, with Loseley Park about 1 mile east. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Nicholas, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Living close to Pucks Oak Barn and McAlmont Reserves is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn.

For landlords and managing agents
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.

What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
- How your policy defines a storm
