What a roof survey looks like in Compton

If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.

Landlords with a home close to Farncombe station may find that knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. With Loseley Park about 1 mile east, the area around Compton has a long history. If you own one of the older houses, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up.

Compton is about 3 miles south-west of Guildford, in Surrey. Compton gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a proper look at whatever is safely visible, photos and a clear written report. Compton is one of the places in Surrey we cover.

How a roof survey works in Compton

We survey roofs in Compton and across London and the South East. Visits run on any day of the week. We are insured for professional indemnity and public liability. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. If you are worried about ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs and flashings that have come away from the wall, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Compton may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are frequently matched when work is done.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Compton

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Compton: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Compton is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Farncombe station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you need.

Do you work in Compton?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, Compton included.

Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?

No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain is typically fine; heavy rain and wind are different. Strong wind or a downpour can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.

Do you look in the roof space?

If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.

How soon is the report ready?

That depends on which survey you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It is emailed to you.

When to book a survey in Compton

Wherever a roof meets a wall, a chimney or another roof, a flashing keeps water out. Over time lead flashings split, lift or work loose, and mortar fillets crack. Missing lead isn’t unusual either, as thieves target it.

We are often asked to look at:

  • Ponding, splits or blisters on flat roofs
  • Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
  • Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
  • Gutters that overflow in heavy rain

Take a building like Loseley Fields Primary School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

What to check before booking

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • What they won’t be able to tell you

What a good roof survey covers

Checking the roof from ground level

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

What happens on the day

We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take an hour or two for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Rural addresses near Compton can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
  3. We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
  4. Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Let us know about parking near the property

Arrange a survey

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
  • Find records of any re-roofing or repairs
  • File the report with your home documents
  • Leave roof access to professionals

Standard includes a follow-up consultation to talk the findings through, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation. It’s a chance to ask questions about anything in the report.

Plan a roof survey every few years, or sooner after severe weather. Routine surveys pick up wear before it leaks. Each report gives a record to compare against.

How the survey changes by roof type

Concrete interlocking tiles

Concrete interlocking tiles are common on post-war and newer homes. They last well, but their surface erodes slowly.

Flat roof coverings

Repeated coatings can hide what’s underneath. We say what we can see and when a closer look would need opening up.
