How a roof survey works in GU3
We survey roofs in GU3 and across London and the South East. Visits run on any day of the week. We are insured for professional indemnity and public liability, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photographs and recommendations. Whether it’s a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. When you are ready to book, phone 07833 053749 or email us. Common reasons to book are worn or blocked valleys and cracked or blistered flat roof coverings, across lead flashings, natural slate and the roof space.
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey normally takes an hour or two at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof.
- You tell us about the property and any concerns.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the roof space and from the roof where safe.
- Every part of the roof is checked and photographed.
- Your report arrives by email, with recommendations prioritised by urgency.
What affects the price in GU3
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across GU3
From Guildford, Woking and Stoughton to its smaller places, buildings across GU3 have roofs of every age. Chimneys, valleys, flashings and gutters are typically where the work is.
Our surveys reach from London out to Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, the Thames Valley, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and GU3 is well within that. We survey on any day of the week.
Wood Street Village: The streets around a church such as St Alban's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. If you look after a building such as Wood Street Infant School, a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.
Why get it checked now?
Many roofs go years without anyone looking at them closely. A survey sets a baseline, which makes later changes easy to spot.
What to check before booking
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Their insurance cover
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Will the report include photos?
What a survey costs
Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- House, block, shop or office
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
What to tell us when you get in touch
We’ll typically ask about:
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The address and postcode of the property
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
We check the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings of each stack, as far as we can safely see them. Leaning stacks and loose pots are recorded.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Many post-war houses have concrete interlocking tiles. They’re heavy and hard-wearing, but their surfaces weather over the years.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.
Signs you need a roof survey
Flashings seal the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. Over time lead flashings split, lift or work loose, and mortar fillets crack. Lead is also a target for theft.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
Your questions about roof surveys in GU3
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. Asbestos testing isn’t part of our service. Where materials might contain it, we say so in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Will you climb onto the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the roof space. On Premium, a drone is used where it applies.
What does a roof survey cost?
Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it’s agreed before booking.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes, we can. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when you book.
