Roof survey in GU24: how it works
A roof survey tells you what condition your roof is in, before small faults become big ones. We look at the coverings, the ridges and hips, the valleys and flashings, the chimneys and the gutters, along with the loft where it is safe to get in. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations. Where it is relevant, the recommendations are prioritised by urgency. We survey natural slate, flat roofs and clay and concrete tiles, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are blocked, sagging or leaking gutters and cracked or blistered flat roof coverings.
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It typically takes about one to two hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We check the roof from every safe viewpoint outside.
- Inside, we check the roof space where there’s safe access.
- We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

What’s near West End
We work in homes and buildings around Holy Trinity, Gordon's School and Brentmoor Heath, among other places. The closest station to West End is Brookwood station, about 2.4 miles south. Other landmarks nearby include Chobham Museum (1.6 miles north-east) and Brookwood Hospital (1.8 miles south-east). The countryside around West End includes Brookwood Lye.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters across GU24
Across GU24, we survey roofs for owners, landlords and agents, in Woking, West End and Knaphill and well beyond. Each report sets out what was seen, with photos and recommendations.
We survey roofs across London and the South East, and GU24 is part of that. London and the South East have homes from every era, from period terraces to post-war new towns and new estates.
West End: If you own a rental within reach of Brookwood station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Holy Trinity, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.
What a survey costs
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How big the roof is
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Basic, Standard or Premium
For a price for your roof in GU24, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Helping us price your survey
What helps most when you contact us:
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- The property’s address and postcode
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Landlords, agents and building managers in GU24 and across Surrey can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed beforehand. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, which helps when tenants work during the week.
When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
- The condition of the rest of the building (that’s a RICS home survey)
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
Leave it or get it looked at?
Before you put a home on the market, it helps to know the roof’s condition. You will know what a buyer’s survey might pick up, or at least know what to expect.
What to check before booking
- Will the report include photos?
- When you will get the report
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- Whether the price includes VAT
Practical tips
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Keep the report with your property records
- Stay off ladders and the roof
Where it helps, we say which items are urgent. Some faults need dealing with soon, while others can wait for planned work. That helps you decide what to do first.
Look at your roof from ground level after strong winds. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.
Your questions about roof surveys in GU24
Do you need to get into the loft?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes, we inspect your part of the roof. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared chimneys and party-wall upstands are looked at from your side.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
All the main parts of the roof: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Higher packages add moisture detection, structural checks, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies.
How long does a roof survey take?
The visit usually takes an hour or two at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. We’ll give you an idea of timing when booking.
How soon is the report ready?
Premium reports arrive the same day, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Photos are included.
