Thermal imaging roof survey in West End, Surrey
Thermal roof surveys in West End, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. You get a clear report with photos.
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
What we can’t see
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- A structural engineer’s assessment
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Thermal roof survey in West End: what you get
What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We talk through the forecast when booking, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. Common reasons to book are moisture around outlets and upstands and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, across pitched roof slopes, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces.
Around West End, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How the survey changes by roof type
Loft insulation
Heat loss shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and colder outside. Our report notes how the conditions affected the images.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.
Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
- File the images with your roof records
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
- Check the loft can be reached safely
After the visit, we put the thermal images, photos and moisture readings into one report. We explain what each image may mean, with our recommendations. With a Premium Survey, you get the report the same day.
Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Insulation is frequently moved when people work in the roof space.
For landlords and managing agents
Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in West End. For a price for a let property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
What we’re asked to look at in West End
Some defects simply cannot be seen with the eye. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Stains that keep coming back
- Gaps in loft insulation
If you run a business near The Peacocks, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

How the survey works
We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around West End, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
How to prepare
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Advice
Questions from West End
Do you cover West End?
We do. The survey and report are the same in West End as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Is my home in West End listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
How many surveys have you done?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
What’s in the report?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. The most urgent items are made clear.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. We explain what the images can and cannot tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Flying and imaging in West End
Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, before anyone quotes for re-roofing. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Take a building like Holy Trinity CofE Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you live in an older home near Holy Trinity, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
