About our thermal roof survey in Bisley
Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. Where something cannot be confirmed, we say what would help next. Typical surveys look at wet insulation beneath the membrane and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, on pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and ceilings below the roof.
Around Bisley, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What we do, step by step
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photographs, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Homes around Bisley often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
How to prepare
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Tell us about parking before the day

Advice
Tips that help
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- File the images with your roof records
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof in suitable weather.
Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Bisley
Is Bisley in the area you cover?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Bisley is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Is Bisley within the area you cover?
Yes. Bisley is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
The results depend on the weather. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
What will the report tell me?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll explain what’s needed.
How the survey changes by roof type
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are often laid over insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We combine a visual check of cracks with the thermal images around them.
Airspace, weather and Bisley roofs
If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St John the Baptist, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Shop and office owners around The Peacocks may find that big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most.

How we price thermal roof surveys
To price your survey, we check:
- How big the roof is
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Building height and the viewpoints available
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
Booking your survey
These details help when you contact us:
- The property’s address and postcode
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- What made you get in touch
When you’re ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or email us. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Bisley?
After a repair, some owners want to know whether the roof has dried out. Thermal images and moisture readings can suggest whether moisture is still trapped when the conditions on the day are suitable.
We’re often asked to look at:
- Stains that keep coming back
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Bisley CofE Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Are they insured for the work?
- Their report turnaround times
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
