About our roof survey in Walton-on-Thames
We survey roofs in Walton-on-Thames and across London and South East England. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We are insured for professional indemnity and public liability. You get a written report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. Whether it is a house, a flat or a commercial building, the process is the same. To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We are often asked to look into leaking gutter joints and downpipes and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone, across flat roofs, chimney stacks and lead flashings.
Walton-on-Thames mixes older houses, often slate or clay tiled, with newer estates, many of them with concrete tiles. Older homes often keep chimney stacks long after the fireplaces went, and their flashings and pointing still matter. Later houses have their own typical faults, from loose ridge tiles to blocked gutters.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we do, step by step
We’ll ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Most visits in a town like Walton-on-Thames start at the front of the house and work round to the back. Rear gardens and side paths often give the best view of extensions and back slopes, so unlocked gates help. Then, if it can be reached safely, we look in the loft.
- You let us know about the property and any concerns.
- We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where safe.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Common roof problems in Walton-on-Thames
Every roof takes years of rain, wind, sun and frost. Wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and rain finds any gap it can. Small faults that start this way grow over time.
It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Valley linings that have cracked or split
- Flashings that have come away from the wall
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
- Leaking gutter joints and downpipes
Anyone responsible for a site like Walton Oak Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
Questions to ask before you book
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Their report turnaround times

Different roofs, different checks
Natural slate
Slate is common on older homes in London and South East England. Where several slates have slipped, the cause is often nail fatigue, and we say how widespread it looks.
Chimney stacks
We look at the stack itself, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If a specialist is needed, we will say so.
Your questions about roof surveys in Walton-on-Thames
Is Walton-on-Thames in the area you cover?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Walton-on-Thames is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the property.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Walton-on-Thames?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
How long will you be at the property?
It usually takes about one to two hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Report times depend on the package.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and the Standard and Premium packages include a structural check. It does not include structural calculations, which need an engineer.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.
Why get it checked now?
Leaving it means relying on what you can see from the ground. That can lead to the wrong work being done, or miss the fault that matters. A survey tells you what actually needs attention. Once water reaches the loft insulation in a home in Walton-on-Thames, it loses much of its value and is slow to dry. That is an extra cost on top of the roof work itself.
Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.

Roof surveys in Walton-on-Thames: local notes
Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. The Homewood, about 2.5 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Walton-on-Thames. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take an older house close to St John: the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. If you own a rental within reach of Walton-On-Thames station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

What affects the cost of roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT.

These details help when you get in touch:
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
