Need a storm damage roof report in Crowhurst?

Why get it checked now?

Leaving storm damage can let water into the loft space and rooms below. That can add to the damage and make it harder to separate from the storm. A roofer should deal with emergency protection quickly. Older and listed buildings around Crowhurst may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.

Storm damage roof report in Crowhurst

Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: from the ground, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it is safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. If part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. You get a report with photos to give to your insurer. We survey flashings, flat roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we are asked to look at most are damaged flat roof membrane and damaged pots on the stack.

Being in a small place like Crowhurst makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Common roof problems in Crowhurst

Some people book because a claim has been questioned. An independent report gives you another view of the roof. We cannot say whether the decision will change.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
  • Damaged pots on the stack
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St George, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • Will the report include photos?

What’s in a roof survey

What you can safely check yourself

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

When you need someone else

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • Negotiating a claim settlement
  • How your policy defines a storm
  • Areas we can’t see safely

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Crowhurst

What happens on the day

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere like Crowhurst needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
  2. We look at the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

How to prepare

  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at

Advice

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Crowhurst

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Crowhurst?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is Crowhurst in the area you cover?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Crowhurst as anywhere else.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.

How long is the visit?

It normally takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. We’ll confirm the timing when you book.

What wind speed counts as a storm?

Each policy has its own definition. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but check your own wording.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Where it’s relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
