About our storm damage roof report in Dollis Hill
What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Check your own policy wording. We don’t decide whether a storm met that test. Our part is recording the damage to your roof and its likely cause. Each area of damage is photographed, and the report is yours to pass on. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We survey flashings, slate and tile slopes and gutters and fascias, and the problems we are asked to look at most are slates and tiles blown off the roof and damaged pots on the stack.
In London, leaks often start somewhere hidden: the valley gutter in a butterfly roof, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or the flat roof over a rear extension. Whether you are tracing a leak or recording storm damage in Dollis Hill, those are among the first places to look. Water from a hidden gutter can run along joists and show up a room or two away.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Storm damage roof reports around Dollis Hill
Outer London has lots of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. With Heath House about 2.3 miles east, Dollis Hill sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.
Take a building like Our Lady of Grace Catholic Junior School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. If you run a business near Brent Cross Shopping Centre, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running.

The countryside around Dollis Hill includes Darland's Lake and Parliament Hill.
How we price storm damage roof reports
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we can help you choose.
Booking your survey
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- The address and postcode of the property
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- What’s prompted the survey
Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.
Dollis Hill: your questions answered
Is parking a problem for a survey in Dollis Hill?
Sometimes, yes. If Dollis Hill has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer, and a driveway is even better.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Dollis Hill?
Yes, Dollis Hill is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
Will my insurer pay for an old roof?
Most policies do not cover wear and tear. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so it is clear what we found. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?
That is not something we can promise. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. What we provide is an independent record of the damage.
How long is the visit?
It normally takes about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. You will then get the report by email.
Different roofs, different checks
Flat roof coverings
Branches and debris can damage flat roofs or block outlets. We record what we find.
Ridge and hip tiles
A lifted ridge tile can let water into the roof. Each one is recorded with photos.
What we can’t see
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Estimates of repair costs
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we check
- Ridges and hips
- Flat roofs
- Gutters and fascias
- Flashings
- Chimney stacks
- Slate and tile slopes
Should I look at the roof myself first?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Dollis Hill
Insurers frequently want evidence of what has been damaged and why. An independent report gives you a clear record to send. Your insurer still makes the decision.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Ridge tiles that have come loose
- New damp or leaks inside
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Damaged flat roof membrane
Living close to Gladstone Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.
Before booking anyone

- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Whether you get a written report with photos

How it works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes an hour or two for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is frequently seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when you book.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- We check the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
