Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in The Hyde
We inspect the roof from wherever it can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. If part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. We are frequently asked to look into damage from fallen branches or debris and loose or broken chimney pots and cowls, on flashings, chimney stacks and slate and tile slopes.
Water getting into a London home frequently comes from a detail you cannot see from the street: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. Whether you’re tracing a leak or recording storm damage in The Hyde, those are among the first places to look. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Common questions in The Hyde
Can parking be tricky for a visit in The Hyde?
It can be, so it is useful to tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
Do you cover The Hyde?
We do. The survey and report are the same in The Hyde as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Only from ground level or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from the ground, and we will record the rest.
Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?
The decision is your insurer’s, not ours. We record the damage, with photographs and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. The report doesn’t include repair costs.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
What happens on the day
A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and make notes for the report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in The Hyde we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.
- First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
- We look at the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Let us know about parking near the property

Roof by roof
Ridge and hip tiles
Worn mortar under ridge tiles can let them lift in a storm. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.
Slate roofs
Slates often outlast the nails that hold them. We check whether slipped slates suggest storm damage, older wear or both.
What this survey cannot tell you
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Your insurer’s view of the claim
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- Estimates of repair costs
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

Prices for storm damage roof reports in The Hyde
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Roof area
Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.
Helping us price your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll explain the options and the price.
Before and after the survey
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
- Photograph the damage safely from below
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it is safe to do so
- Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
For repair costs, ask a roofer to quote. The report gives them a clear list of the damage.
Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They can help show the roof was looked after.
Leaks and storm damage in The Hyde
Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. With Heath House about 3.2 miles south-east, The Hyde sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Shop and office owners around Brent Cross Shopping Centre may find that finding where water is getting in quickly keeps disruption down. Take a building like The Hyde School: on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. For landlords with property near Hendon station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.
The Hyde is about 2 miles north of Neasden, in Greater London. Surveys in The Hyde work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Across Greater London, we cover The Hyde. There is also a page for London.

What you can safely check yourself

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
