About our storm damage roof report in Colindale

A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and cannot say whether a claim will be paid. We are frequently asked to look into lead lifted at abutments and broken or displaced guttering, across chimney stacks, flashings and gutters and fascias.

In London, leaks often start somewhere hidden: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. Whether you are tracing a leak or recording storm damage in Colindale, those are among the first places to look. Water from a hidden gutter can run along joists and show up a room or two away.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

The survey, step by step

It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. For a visit in Colindale, parking and access are the things to plan: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. We then look at whatever is safely visible from the ground, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.

  1. You let us know when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there’s access.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
  5. The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.

Storm damage roof reports around Colindale

Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. Historic houses like Heath Hall, about 3.5 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Colindale goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

The streets around a church such as St Matthias the Apostle church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in. Trees in and around Sunny Hill Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.

Do you need a storm damage roof report in Colindale?

Landlords and managing agents book reports to keep a record for owners and insurers. It helps when explaining damage to a building owner or insurer.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Damaged pots on the stack
  • Damaged gutters and fascias
  • Loose or torn flashings

If you let a flat or house near Hendon station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

What’s in a roof survey

Common questions in Colindale

Do you carry out roof surveys in Colindale?

Yes, Colindale is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the property.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Colindale?

It can be, so it is useful to tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book. That way the visit can be planned around it.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?

Only your insurer can decide that. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.

What do I do if water is coming in?

Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. If it is safe, photograph the damage before it’s covered. Keep receipts in case your insurer asks for them.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed.

DIY checks: what’s safe

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • How your policy defines a storm
  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

Why it is worth a survey now in Colindale

Many policies expect damage to be reported promptly. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. An independent report can follow. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details. The price is agreed before a date is set.
