Storm damage roof report in Egypt

What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Check your own policy wording. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. We record the damage and what seems to have caused it. Each area of damage is photographed, and the report is yours to pass on. The claim decision rests with your insurer. We survey gutters and fascias, slate and tile slopes and chimney stacks, and people most frequently book us about broken or displaced guttering and slates and tiles blown off the roof.

Roofs in small places like Egypt frequently stand in the open, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photographs is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Common roof problems in Egypt

Gusts work at anything on a roof that’s loose or exposed. Rain can then blow in where slates or tiles have gone. People normally call us after a storm, once they’ve noticed damage or a leak.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Damaged flat roof membrane
  • Loose or torn flashings
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Broken or displaced guttering

For landlords with property near Burnham station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

What to check before booking

  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?

Common questions in Egypt

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Egypt?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is Egypt in the area you cover?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

Should I go up on the roof to take photos?

Safely, from ground level or a window. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. Binoculars can help you see damage from below and we’ll inspect the rest from safe positions.

What if the roof was already worn?

Most policies do not cover wear and tear. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so you know what the roof shows. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Tips from our surveys

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Photograph the damage safely from below
  • Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
  • Read your policy wording on storm damage

If a claim is declined and you disagree, the first step is a complaint to the insurer. After that, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Keep gutters and outlets clear so heavy rain can drain away. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.

How it works

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Older rural homes like those around Egypt can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there’s access.
  3. The damage is recorded with photos, area by area.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Let us know about parking before the day

Advice

Storm damage roof reports around Egypt

Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. About 3 miles west lies Cliveden, a reminder of how long the area around Egypt has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St John the Evangelist, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. Anyone responsible for a site like Farnham Common Infant School will know that tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Acting quickly typically means less damage overall. Older cottages and farmhouses around Egypt can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:

  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.
