Storm damage roof report in Eight Ash Green: what you get

If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. Typical surveys look at slipped or missing slates or tiles and ridge tiles that have come loose, across flat roofs, ridges and hips and gutters and fascias.

Being in a small place like Eight Ash Green makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: the journey and access are just planned in advance. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

Can I check my roof myself?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

What a survey costs

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:

  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • House, block, shop or office
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

Booking your survey

You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Many policies expect damage to be reported promptly. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. An independent report can follow. For an older or listed building in a place like Eight Ash Green, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £150, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

Eight Ash Green: your questions answered

Is Eight Ash Green in the area you cover?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Eight Ash Green is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details.

Will you come out to Eight Ash Green?

Yes, Eight Ash Green is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.

What if the roof was already worn?

Wear and tear is typically excluded from home insurance. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so you know what the roof shows. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.

Can I check the roof after a storm?

Please do not climb onto the roof. Take photos from ground level or from windows. Record the date and any damage inside as well.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How the survey works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Older roofs in small places like Eight Ash Green can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

What a good roof survey covers

Before and after the survey

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Keep invoices for temporary repairs
  • Take photos of stains and damp inside
  • Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
  • Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe

Questions about the findings are always welcome. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.

Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

Storm damage roof reports around Eight Ash Green

In Essex, older buildings are frequently clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.

If you look after a building like Holy Trinity CofE Primary School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near All Saints Church, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.
