Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Findon Valley

If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from the ground or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. We then record the damage in a report you can pass to your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. If you’re worried about stains appearing after strong winds and roofs hit by falling trees, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

In older homes around places like Findon Valley, the underlay may be old bitumen felt, or there may be none at all. Once the slates or tiles let water past, there is little to stop it reaching the ceiling. Finding where it gets in, and whether it is old wear or new damage, decides what comes next. Wet battens and insulation in the loft are often the first clue.

We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Height and safe access
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

Booking your survey

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It helps to include:

  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • What made you get in touch
  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange

Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.

How the survey works

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit typically takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a smaller place like Findon Valley, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. We check the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Advice

How the survey changes by roof type

Chimney stacks

Pots, cowls and aerials on chimneys can be damaged or dislodged in a storm. We record any damage we can see.

Lead flashings

Flashings with older defects often fail in high winds. Our report separates fresh damage from older wear where we can.

What we’re asked to look at in Findon Valley

Falling trees and branches can damage roofs in high winds. The report shows what was hit and the damage caused, with photographs.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Slipped or missing slates or tiles
  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Damaged ridges and hips
  • Holes or cracks caused by debris

For an older house near a landmark such as All Saints, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price
  • Their report turnaround times
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey

What a roof survey includes

Findon Valley roofs and the weather

Findon Valley is within about 4 miles of the coast, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and driving rain finds any gap they leave. Historic houses such as Ecclesden Manor, about 3.5 miles south-west, show how far back building in the area around Findon Valley goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

If you let a flat or house near West Worthing station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. Take a building like Vale School: on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.

Common questions in Findon Valley

How do I find out if my home in Findon Valley is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is the coastal weather around Findon Valley hard on roofs?

Often, yes. Within about 4 miles of the sea, as Findon Valley is, metal fixings wear faster and gales find any loose ridge or slate.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when you book.

Can I check the roof after a storm?

Only from the ground or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from ground level and we will inspect the rest from safe positions.

Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?

The decision is your insurer’s, not ours. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.

How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Findon Valley?

The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Wear and tear is typically excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so it’s clear what we found. How the policy applies is up to your insurer.
