Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Hadleigh

What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Check your own policy wording. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. We record the damage and what seems to have caused it. Each area of damage is photographed, and the report is yours to pass on. The claim decision rests with your insurer. If you are worried about slates and tiles blown off the roof and water coming in after the storm, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on gutters and fascias, flashings and slate and tile slopes alike.

Houses in smaller places like Hadleigh can stand more in the open, where driving rain gets into any gap at a ridge, verge or flashing. A leak that only appears in certain weather often points to an exposed detail. Tell us when it happens when you contact us. Gutters and downpipes on the exposed side are worth a look as well.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.

What a survey costs

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.

Booking your survey

You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:

  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • When you need the report by

Unsure which package suits your roof? It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

FAQs for Hadleigh

Do you cover smaller places like Hadleigh?

Yes, Hadleigh is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Is my home in Hadleigh listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?

Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. Take photos from the ground first if it’s safe. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?

The decision is your insurer’s, not ours. We record the damage, with photographs and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Hadleigh

The coast is about 2 miles or less from Hadleigh. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies, and the insurer decides the claim. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, and plenty of post-war and modern estates besides. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.

If you look after a building such as Hadleigh Junior School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. Trees in and around Hadleigh Farm shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. If you own a rental within reach of Leigh-on-Sea station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.

Hadleigh is about 2 miles south-east of Thundersley, in Essex. Wherever you are in Hadleigh, we can carry out storm damage roof reports at your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. We cover towns and villages across Essex, large and small. We also survey roofs in Chelmsford.

Storm damage roof reports in SS7 are booked the same way as anywhere else. We also cover the places around Hadleigh: Daws Heath (1 mile north), Leigh-on-Sea (2 miles east), Rayleigh (3 miles north), Eastwood (3 miles north-east) and Chalkwell (3 miles east). Further out, we also cover Chelmsford (14 miles north-west), Basildon (7 miles west), Brentwood (14 miles west), Maldon (12 miles north), Billericay (9 miles north-west) and Wickford (5 miles north-west).

Nearby you’ll also find Hadleigh Castle (0.7 miles south) and Bay Museum (3 miles south). For a walk, there’s Great Wood and Dodd's Grove.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Being in a smaller place like Hadleigh does not change how the visit works: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. It is useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

How to prepare

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Why it’s worth a survey now in Hadleigh

Damage left open lets in more rain. Further water damage can blur what the storm actually did. Emergency temporary protection should be arranged with a roofer. Around Hadleigh, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

What you can safely check yourself

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Honest limits

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Areas we cannot see safely
  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
  • How your policy defines a storm
