Need a storm damage roof report in Kingston upon Thames?

How the survey works

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a London area like Kingston upon Thames, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. On the day, the roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. We look at the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

Before we arrive

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

How to book

Advice

How a storm damage roof report works in Kingston upon Thames

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We are not loss adjusters, and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. We survey slate and tile slopes, flat roofs and gutters and fascias, and the problems we are asked to look at most are slates and tiles blown off the roof and ridge tiles that have come loose.

In converted houses and blocks across London, water from a roof can run a long way before it shows on a ceiling, sometimes in a different flat from the one below the defect. Tracing it back matters, both for dealing with the cause and for any insurance claim. In Kingston upon Thames, we inspect what we can reach safely and are given access to. Let us know when the water shows, and in what kind of weather.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

FAQs for Kingston upon Thames

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Kingston upon Thames?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Kingston upon Thames?

It can be, so it helps to let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space as you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only if it is safe. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?

It varies by policy. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but check your own wording.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

What you can safely check yourself

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Leaks and storm damage in Kingston upon Thames

With Hampton Court Palace about 1.8 miles south-west, Kingston upon Thames sits in an area with a long building history. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Bentall Centre, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Luke, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. If you own a rental within reach of Kingston station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away.

Why get it checked now?

It’s useful to get a record soon after the storm, while the damage is fresh. Later weather and temporary repairs can make it harder to see what happened. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is frequently older than it looks.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Prices for storm damage roof reports in Kingston upon Thames

Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Which survey package you book

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.

How the survey changes by roof type

Lead flashings

Flashings with older defects frequently fail in high winds. We record what looks recent and what looks older.

Clay and concrete tiles

Broken or missing tiles leave the underlay exposed to rain. We photograph each gap.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • A price for the repairs
  • Acting for you with the insurer
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
