Storm damage roof report in Maybush

A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. It is a report with photographs, sent by email. It doesn’t price the repairs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. We survey gutters and fascias, chimney stacks and flat roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are damaged ridges and hips and damaged pots on the stack.

Houses in smaller places like Maybush can stand more in the open, where driving rain gets into any gap at a ridge, verge or flashing. A leak that only appears in certain weather frequently points to an exposed detail. It helps to know when and where the water appears. Gutters and downpipes on the exposed side are worth a look as well.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

What we cannot see

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • How your policy defines a storm
  • The outcome of a claim

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Chimney stacks

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Roof area
  • Height and safe access
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the roof. We will confirm the figure before booking.

Booking your survey

Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:

  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • When you need the report by

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.

What we do, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes an hour or two for a house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Maybush, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.

  1. You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Preparing for the visit

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Let us know where we can park nearby

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridge and hip tiles

The ridge and hips are among the most exposed parts of a roof. The survey notes loose, cracked or missing ridge and hip tiles.

Chimney stacks

High winds can loosen pots, cowls and aerials on stacks. The report notes any damage to the stack.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. Our report can then add a clear record. With lower homes, common in places like Maybush, there is little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

Wind, rain and roofs in Maybush

Maybush lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Strong wind lifts anything already loose, and driving rain gets in wherever it can, while salt slowly corrodes metal fixings and flashings. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed.

Shop and office owners around Marlands Shopping Centre may find that a leak can close part of a shop or office, so finding the cause quickly matters. If you live in an older home near St Peter's Church, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. With Southampton Tudor House and Garden about 2.9 miles south-east, the area around Maybush has a long history. On older roofs nearby, leaks often trace back to lead flashings, valleys and gutters.

Maybush is about 3 miles east of Totton, in Southampton. Whether the building in Maybush is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. We cover towns and villages across Southampton.

Maybush: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Maybush?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover smaller places like Maybush?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

How are storm damage reports priced?

Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t part of the report.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Before and after the survey

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:

  • Keep receipts for any emergency work
  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
  • Note the date and time you first saw the damage
  • Take photos from ground level or a window, never by climbing

If anything in the report is not clear, just ask us. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

Keep the roof in good order between storms. Have loose slates, tiles and flashings seen to promptly.
