Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Minsted
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It is yours to pass to your insurer. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are not loss adjusters and can’t say whether a claim will be paid. If you’ve noticed loose or torn flashings and cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind, we can find out what’s behind it.
Many homes in small places like Minsted face open ground, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A record with photos is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.
The report doesn’t just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Wind, rain and roofs in Minsted
Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. Historic houses like Cowdray House, about 2.1 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Minsted goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near The Parish Church of St James, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. Take a building like Stedham Primary School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.
Minsted is about 7 miles east of Petersfield, in West Sussex. Minsted gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a proper look at what can safely be seen, photos and a clear written report. Our West Sussex coverage includes Minsted. Our Portsmouth page covers surveys nearby.

Common questions in Minsted
Do you cover smaller places like Minsted?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is my home in Minsted listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Minsted?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends.
What if the roof was already worn?
Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. We note both storm damage and older defects, so it’s clear what we found. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it is applicable. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. Repair costs aren’t included, so ask a roofer to quote.
Honest limits
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- A price for the repairs
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
- Your insurer’s view of the claim
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
Roof types and parts we check
- Slate and tile slopes
- Flat roofs
- Ridges and hips
- Gutters and fascias
- Chimney stacks
- Flashings
Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Different roofs, different checks
Lead flashings
Lifted flashings let rain run behind them into the roof. The report records the flashing and any damp inside.
Chimney stacks
Stacks with existing defects tend to suffer more in storms. Our report notes recent damage and older defects.
What we do, step by step
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older roofs in small places like Minsted can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- We look at the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
