Independent storm damage roof reports in North Street

North Street: your questions answered

Do roofs near the sea, like those around North Street, take more of a battering?

Often, yes. Within about 1 mile of the sea, as North Street is, metal fixings wear faster and gales find any loose ridge or slate.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in North Street?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

What’s the best way to book?

It is easiest to call 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey seven days a week.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Insurers usually exclude wear and tear. We describe what looks like fresh storm damage and what looks older. Your insurer decides the claim.

What do I do if water is coming in?

Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. If it’s safe, photograph the damage before it’s covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when booking.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.

About our storm damage roof report in North Street

High winds normally affect the parts of a roof that are already exposed or loose. Typical damage includes lost slates and tiles, lifted ridges, loose flashings and torn flat roof coverings. Trees and branches can also hit roofs in a storm. We record the damage on your roof and photograph each part. Where we also see signs of older wear, the report records that too. Common reasons to book are damaged ridges and hips and damaged gutters and fascias, on gutters and fascias, flat roofs and chimney stacks.

Roofs in small places like North Street often stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later.

How we price storm damage roof reports

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What to tell us when you get in touch

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.

Useful tips for North Street property owners

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Check how your policy defines a storm
  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Keep receipts for any emergency work

Questions about the findings are always welcome. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.

Keep records of roof work and surveys. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roof coverings

On flat roofs, storms can lift edges and tear membranes. Damage is photographed and described.

Chimney stacks

Pots, cowls and aerials on chimneys can be damaged or dislodged in a storm. The report notes any damage to the stack.

Storm damage roof reports around North Street

The coast is about 1 mile or less from North Street, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. In a coastal gale, rain is driven sideways into laps, verges and flashings, and salt air slowly wears metal fixings. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter and St Paul, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. For landlords with property near Gillingham (Kent) station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

North Street is about 5 miles north of Gillingham, in Medway. We provide storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in North Street. Across Medway, we cover North Street and the places around it. There is also a page for Maidstone.

How it works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Somewhere like North Street needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Before the survey

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Find any records of previous roof work

What you can safely check yourself

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
