Storm damage roof reports in Southwood

Storm damage roof report in Southwood: what you get

Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, windows and vantage points, the loft where there’s access, and the roof itself where that’s safe. We photograph and describe each area of damage. We note any part we couldn’t see. You get a photo-illustrated written report to give to your insurer. If you’ve noticed cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind and damaged gutters and fascias, we can find out what’s behind it, on flashings, ridges and hips and slate and tile slopes alike.

Chimney stacks on older houses around places like Southwood can let water in, at the flashings, the pointing or the mortar round the pots. Damp on a chimney breast is not always rain from above, which is why it is worth tracing properly. The stack, its flashings and the loft space beside it are all worth checking.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later.

What this survey can’t tell you

To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
  • A price for the repairs
  • A decision on your insurance claim

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

Leave it or get it looked at?

With an independent report, you have something specific to show your insurer. It sets out what we found and the likely cause, alongside any photos you took yourself. On a bungalow or cottage around Southwood, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

The survey, step by step

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. A visit to Southwood is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there is access.
  3. The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
  4. We look at whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Advice

FAQs for Southwood

Is Southwood within the area you cover?

Yes, Southwood is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Is Southwood in the area you cover?

Yes, Southwood is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Southwood as anywhere else.

How experienced are you?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?

That is not something we can promise. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Do I need to be at home?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

How long is the visit?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
  • Keep receipts for any emergency work
  • Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly

Once we’ve been, the findings are written up with photos. It sets out what is damaged, the likely cause and any signs of older wear. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Clear gutters and outlets before the stormy months. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.

Leaks and storm damage in Southwood

Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Southwood Infant School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. Homes near green spaces such as Ancells Farm Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. If you own a rental within reach of Fleet station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.
