Storm damage roof report in Cove
Storms tend to find the weak points on a roof. Slates and tiles slip or blow off, ridge and hip tiles lift, flashings pull away and flat roof coverings can tear. Trees and branches can also hit roofs in a storm. Our report records what has happened to your roof, with photos. Any older wear we can see is recorded as well. If you’ve noticed torn or lifted flat roof coverings and damaged gutters and fascias, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Older cottages and houses around Cove may have roofs with little or no underlay. Without a sound underlay, any gap in the coverings lets water straight through. Finding where it gets in, and whether it’s old wear or new damage, decides what comes next. Wet battens and insulation in the loft are often the first clue.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Cove
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.
If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes about one to two hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a smaller place like Cove, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there’s access.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Tell us about parking before the day

Clay and concrete tiles
Strong gusts can lift and break tiles. We record which are damaged and where.
Questions from Cove
How do I find out if my home in Cove is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is Cove in the area you cover?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Cove is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.
What if the roof was already worn?
Insurers typically exclude wear and tear. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. Your insurer decides the claim.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Checking the roof from ground level
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. An independent report can follow. Around Cove, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, and that is a much bigger job than the original defect.
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
What you get with us
- Customer satisfaction of 98%
- Drones and thermal imaging where it applies
- An independent look at the roof

Cove roofs and the weather
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, before anyone quotes for re-roofing.
The streets around a church such as St John the Baptist are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. For landlords with property near Fleet station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. Trees in and around Ancells Farm Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

What this survey can’t tell you
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Your insurer’s view of the claim
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- Estimates of repair costs
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
