Wind, rain and roofs in Wallcrouch
The wider area around Wallcrouch has a long history of building, with Wadhurst Castle about 2.2 miles north-west. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years. In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from.
For landlords with property near Stonegate station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. The streets around a church such as Shover's Green Baptist Chapel are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. Take a building like Stonegate Church of England Primary School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Wallcrouch
Our storm damage report starts from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It is not a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for that. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. Common reasons to book are damaged pots on the stack and damage from fallen branches or debris, on flat roofs, ridges and hips and slate and tile slopes.
Being in a small place like Wallcrouch makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

What we look for on each type of roof
Ridge and hip tiles
Ridge and hip tiles take the full force of the wind. We record any that have lifted, cracked or come away.
Flat roof coverings
Debris blown onto a flat roof can puncture the covering or block outlets. Any damage is recorded with photos.
Honest limits
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- A price for the repairs
- A decision on your insurance claim
- Your insurer’s view of the claim

FAQs for Wallcrouch
Do you cover smaller places like Wallcrouch?
Yes. Wallcrouch is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Is my home in Wallcrouch listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?
Each policy has its own definition. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but your policy sets the actual test.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Will you check the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.
Do I need to be at home?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when you book.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
For landlords and managing agents
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or email us.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
How the survey works
Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Somewhere as small as Wallcrouch, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there is access.
- The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
- The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Before the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
