Thermal roof survey in Camber: what you get
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We are often asked to look into areas of a flat roof that may hold water and water getting in at parapets and stacks, across insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and ceilings below the roof.
Somewhere as small as Camber, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Camber
Camber lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and wind off the sea can be strong. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
Lamb House lies about 2.8 miles west, so building around Camber goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.
Camber is about 11 miles north-east of Hastings, in East Sussex. Camber is one of many places we visit across East Sussex. Our East Sussex coverage includes Camber and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our Maidstone page.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
To price your survey, we look at:
- The size of the roof
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. Please include:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- What made you get in touch
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.
How it works
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Camber frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Before we arrive
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property

Booking a survey

Related advice
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- File the images with your roof records
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof, when the conditions are suitable.
What happens if roof problems are left?
If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. For older village homes like those around Camber, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

When to book a survey in Camber
People often book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. A leak may start well away from where the stain appears. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.
A survey can pick up problems like:
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
For an older house near a landmark like St Thomas the Apostle, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.
Questions to ask before booking
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- When you will get the report
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection

Questions from Camber
Is my home in Camber listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you come out to Camber?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
What happens after the survey?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it applies and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
