Thermal roof survey in Chestfield
A thermal imaging roof survey uses a thermal camera to show differences in surface temperature across a roof. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat escaping. The camera does not see water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. Common reasons to book are damp that repairs haven’t cured and leaks that are hard to trace, on ceilings below the roof, commercial roofs and insulated roof spaces.
In a small place like Chestfield, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Chestfield questions
Is Chestfield within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Do you cover Chestfield?
Yes, Chestfield is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
What do I do with the report?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.
Will I get photos?
Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
The survey, step by step
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey typically takes about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere like Chestfield needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Getting ready for the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent

Related advice
What we look for on each type of roof
Loft insulation
In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there is safe access.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Felt and asphalt sit tight to the layers below, which often helps the camera pick up differences. Any patterns are checked with moisture readings.
When you need someone else
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- A formal energy assessment
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What we check

- Pitched roof slopes
How we price thermal roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Getting in touch
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- What’s prompted the survey
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Chestfield?
Some buyers want extra detail before they commit to a purchase. A Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report, which helps when timescales are tight.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Water that travels before it shows
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St John the Baptist, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before booking anyone
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Their report turnaround times
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
