How a thermal roof survey works in Chipping

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. If you’re worried about damp around chimneys and parapets and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering, we can find out what’s behind it, on loft conversions, insulated roof spaces and commercial roofs alike.

In a village or hamlet like Chipping, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • A structural engineer’s assessment

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs

Different roofs, different checks

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. We explain what can and can’t be read from them.

Loft insulation

Insulation often gets moved during work in the loft. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Chipping

Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.

Whatever the street in Chipping, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Chipping

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Chipping

People often book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. Water can travel under a roof covering or along timbers before it shows inside. The camera helps narrow the search.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Damp around chimneys and parapets
  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Freman College, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Before you book anyone

  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Their insurance cover
  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • What they won’t be able to tell you

What a roof survey includes

How we price thermal roof surveys

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • How big the roof is
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, with VAT included.

What we need to know

There is no need for technical words. It is enough to tell us:

  • Anything about access we should know
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • When you need the report by
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We’ll confirm the price before you book.

Chipping questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Chipping?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is Chipping within the area you cover?

Yes, Chipping is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

How long is the visit?

It normally takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. We will confirm the timing when booking.

What do I do with the report?

The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

What conditions are best for thermal imaging?

Conditions on the day affect the results. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we discuss the forecast when booking.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.

How it works

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older rural homes like those around Chipping can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Let us know about parking before the day
