Tips that help

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:

  • Do not switch the heating off ahead of the visit
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Talk to us about the weather when booking

If the images suggest moisture that cannot be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, like electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.

Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.

Thermal roof survey in Curbridge

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey commercial roofs, ceilings below the roof and pitched roof slopes, and people most often book us about moisture around outlets and upstands and leaks far from where the stain appears.

In a village or hamlet like Curbridge, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Different roofs, different checks

Loft insulation

The difference is clearest when the home is heated and it’s cold out. Our report notes how the conditions affected the images.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.

What happens on the day

It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Curbridge, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Before we arrive

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Common questions in Curbridge

Is Curbridge in the area you cover?

Yes, Curbridge is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Curbridge as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Is my home in Curbridge listed or in a conservation area?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.

Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?

Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Buyers get extra information from thermal images that the eye can miss. Finding hidden moisture before exchange gives you facts to raise with the seller. In a small place like Curbridge, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

For landlords and managing agents

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant, which helps when budgeting.

Airspace, weather and Curbridge roofs

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Minster Lovell Hall lies about 1.8 miles north, so building around Curbridge goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you look after a building such as Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you live in an older home near Church of St John the Baptist, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
